Hmmphh…what a year!

Covid-19 hit – our next tree planting was cancelled – our Gamburra Rd site was finished off by TNQITafe students thanks to Boyd – and we had 2 months off.

Then, when we were allowed to gather again in groups of 10, and everyone was keen to get out, we formed the De-Vine 10 and started weekly de-vine-ing activities at Radjirr-radjirr by RSVP only and BYO everything. Outdoor environmental group activities like ours cannot be underestimated for improving mental health during such times, and at all times really.

We held 6 of those over May and June and then slowly and safely commenced our tree plantings at Huntley Crescent over July and August to complete our 2019 20 CRC Resource Performance Agreement of 2000 trees.

In September we held a rainy Great Northern Clean Up at Goomboora Park followed by a very successful AGM resulting in 8 people on the committee with two of those new.

There is great excitement for the future because now we have 2 Citizen Science projects that will keep us going until 2023. The Australian Government’s Community Environment Program and the Queensland Government’s Citizen Science Project.

We are in the planning stages now.

Thank you to the Cairns Regional Council for continued support of our projects.
