We had a serious question to solve today… What do mini monsters in the river have to do with water quality??
River Monsters and Water Quality (Crystals to Lower Freshie investigation) was a great session, from the top to bottom of Freshie creek. The Macroinvertebrate survey got lots of interesting evidence at both ends of the river, with a clear difference in the two sites. Ive never seen so many happy families with skim nets in one place before.
It was a funny surprise when the tide came up to meet our survey at lower freshie. But our intrepid surveyors carried on regardless. Some water Snakes and eels added interest to the river ecology. The water quality was an educational session, generating some great questions and planning for Treeforce water quality programs into the future. And the answer to the question? Water macroinvertebrates are indicator animals, with the most sensitive types only living in the most pristine rivers.
Thanks everyone for coming!
