What a fantastic night of family fun we had on our spotlighting nature ramble 30th October. 34 adventurous people showed up, and the kids were keen to spot some wildlife.

We moved from Glenoma Park, and spotted over the river, to watch microbats wheeling their acrobatics. Then tracking between the 2019 RMP planting and the river we saw bandicoots and a Papuan Frogmouth. Next, tripping over a scrub fowl nest and dropping into the dry creek bed beside Radjiir island 2015 site we saw another Papuan frogmouth, a feeding spectacled flying fox, and a possible glimpse of a nail tail wallaby. Lastly, the group went through the plantings below St andrews, planted 2008 on, and saw a shy Fawn Footed Melomy.

Apart from larger animals, we all had a great time looking closely at Stick insects, Crab spiders, Poinciana Longicorn beetles, Wolf spiders, Ornate leaf cockroaches, Orb spiders, and the Scutigera centipede.

Towards the end of the activity, a local school added a fireworks display to close the night with a bang! Treeforce’s young explorers had a great adventure, congratulations to all the parents and citizen scientists for making it such a great night.
