Treeforce has had quite a fun & fulfilling start to the year & to our Citizen Science Project!
Our first 2020 activity on Feb 16 involved 99 volunteers due to the 29 wonderful early hole diggers on a hot morning followed by Nora’s birthday party of 70 children & parents! The reward for the early diggers was morning tea by Freshwater Creek & Guest Speaker, Stuart Worboys, (BSc (Hons) La Trobe, MSc JCU- Laboratory and Technical Support Officer from the Australian Tropical Herbarium). Stuart enlightened us about the characteristics of the 6 species of rainforest trees that were planted on the day.
If you interested in joining Stuart for one of his plant workshops in Atherton or Paluma visit the link below for more information:

Then, on the Tuesday, the Party Bus rolled into Goomboora Park as part of the Kindness Bus Tour 2020 & 35 kind & colourful characters jumped off & wandered through the forest to plant trees as a Random Act of Kindness to the Earth.
Only 146 trees were planted over the two events but we learned a lot and had a lot of fun :)
With all this rain it’s perfect weather for tree planting & we have two Tree Plantings Coming Up at our exciting new site nestled in Redlynch Valley estate, on high ground, on Gamburra Drive next to Freshwater Creek. The weather outlook looks good to me so only stay in bed if it’s raining. Phone 0435 016 906 for confirmation on the morning if you are unsure.
Tree Planting no. 1 – Sunday March 1, 7am – Gamburra Drive, Redlynch Valley Estate – Site Preparation (digging) and Tree Planting
(Please note that this is not at Goomboora or Glenoma Park….it is Gamburra Drive…we had a few confused lost souls last time!)
This tree planting is at one of our new sites on Freshwater Creek in Redlynch Valley Estate that has been identified by and is supported by the Council.
Directions: Drive down Redlynch Intake Rd towards Crystal Cascades. You will pass a horse club on the left and then another on the right. Turn left onto Mary Parker Drive which is only 3 km from Crystal Cascades. At the roundabout turn right and continue straight down Gamburra Drive then park before it takes a left dog leg. There will be signs….follow the big water pipe down towards the creek. You will find us there. Morning tea supplied. Bring you swimmers for afterwards as there are many swimming spots close by.
Click on & enlarge the map on this page for directions to the new site.
Tree Planting no. 2 – Monday (not Tuesday as I said in the last email sorry) March 2, 1pm – Gamburra Drive as above – Tree Planting with Small World Journeys School Group.
Same site as above but I WILL NEED HELP on this day with set up and placing of trees. Please, please volunteer if you are available on this Monday.
To all activities wear sun smart gear, hat & covered shoes & bring gloves and water. Morning tea will be supplied. No dogs thanks :) ….. See you there!
These current projects are supported by Treeforce in partnership with the Cairns Regional Council, the Australian Government and Woolworths Redlynch.
