We planted another 1000 trees over two events. The first one was a community tree planting where we got rained on for the first time this year… our volunteers voted to keep going. Over morning tea our guest speaker, Yirrkanydji Elder & local historian Dr. George Skeene OAM, spoke about Freshwater Creek and living in the Aboriginal Camps in Cairns. He also released a turtle into the creek that he and Jacqui saved from Reservoir Rd.

The next Tuesday, Steve Bailey from Terrain NRM and I assisted Yr 11 Trinity Anglican School Geography students plant the remainder of the trees and stencilled a turtle on the concrete bench seat pad with the message “this leads to the Great Barrier Reef”.

Thank you to all our volunteers for helping us with this great project.

This project is supported by Treeforce with funding from the Queensland Government.
